For teachers

EarthEvent lessons use real, current data: this month's earthquakes, today's sea temperature, the satellites overhead now. Each lesson takes about five minutes and follows predict, observe, explain and check. No account is needed and nothing a student answers leaves the device.

How to use a lesson

  1. Project the globe and ask the class to vote on the prediction before tapping Show me the data.
  2. Pause on the observe steps: ask students what they notice before reading the caption.
  3. Use the common mistake card as a discussion question: who believed it, and what evidence on the map shows it is wrong?
  4. Run the check questions together or let students do them on their own devices.
  5. Because the data is live, the same lesson looks different next month: repeat it and compare.

Sharing a lesson

  • Every lesson has its own page. Copy the address from the browser, or from the "Share this lesson" line at the bottom of the lesson, and post it to your class.
  • 15 lessons play in the browser on any device, with no install and no account. The rest are fully readable here, and play in the EarthEvent app for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
  • Add ?step=3 to a lesson address to open it at a given step.
  • Nothing a student answers is saved or sent anywhere.
